Pachyman’s Single “All Night Long” Feat. Winter Out Now

Pachyman, the LA-based multi-instrumentalist Pachy García, shares his new single “All Night Long” today. The mesmerizing and traditionally inspired dub track features vocals from Brazilian singer Winter describing the tenderness and aching that the late night gives way to. “All Night Long” will also be released physically on a 7-inch vinyl. Available for purchase HERE.

Speaking about the new single, Pachyman says, “Lately I have been inspired by a lot of lovers-rock tracks. There is some sort of modern feel to this subgenre of reggae, maybe because of its immediate influence from disco and soul that spoke to me in a different way than roots or rub a dub. The fusion of electric pianos or synthesizers on acoustic reggae always struck me as futuristic and something that needed further explorations and lovers-rock did it right. The combination of those worlds with a female vocal is magical. I wrote the whole tune inspired by the likes of Jennifer Lara & Sonia Ferguson. I called up my Brazilian friend and amazing vocalist and songwriter Winter to put her touch on the music. She gave her own twist to it, singing in both English and Portuguese in a dreamy manner that gave the song its own unique sound.”

“All Night Long” marks Pachyman’s first offering of 2022 and follows his third studio album The Return of Pachyman, a release inspired by the old-school Caribbean reggae García fell in love with while growing up in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The song precedes a run of North American tour dates beginning in New York at the end of March with stops in Philadelphia and Boston and continuing on through April with Altin Gün. Grab your tickets here.

St. Paul & The Broken Bones’ ‘The Alien Coast’ Out Today

St. Paul & the Broken Bones have released The Alien Coast—their fourth studio album.  The Birmingham, AL 8-piece made a return appearance to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, performing lead single “The Last Dance” live at the Ed Sullivan Theater.  Tomorrow they will perform two songs on CBS Saturday Morning, marking the band’s 4th time on the show (with a previous appearance earning them a Daytime Emmy nomination).  Lead singer Paul Janeway will also be interviewed by NPR’s All Things Considered this weekend, he appeared on longtime fan Elton John’s Rocket Hour radio show, and the album was featured Tuesday on NPR Music’s #NowPlaying.

The most adventurous release yet from this ever-evolving musical powerhouse, The Alien Coast is a convergence of soul and psychedelia, stoner metal and funk. According to Janeway, “This album was birthed through the idea of falling asleep in a hotel and having a sequence of nightmares, then waking up and missing home so badly.” In creating the ultra-vivid dreamscape threaded through The Alien Coast, the band’s chief lyricist drew inspiration from such disparate sources as Greek mythology, dystopian sci-fi, 17th-century Italian sculpture, classic paintings by Bermejo and Picasso, and colonial-period history books.

Grace Cummings Releases Sophomore Album, ‘Storm Queen’

Today, Grace Cummings releases her sophomore album Storm Queen. The album is a body of work with its own unruly climate, governed only by the singular force of her devastating vocals. Over the course of 11 feverishly composed folk songs, the Melbourne-based singer/songwriter explores a vast and volatile emotional landscape, approaching each track with both exquisite control and unfettered abandon.

In the recording process, Cummings captured the bulk of Storm Queen’s songs in the first few takes, effectively amplifying the visceral quality of her spellbinding vocal presence.

This week, Grace put out a new music video for the single “Raglan”, directed and produced by Gil Gilmour. Cummings said this about the new song:

“I’m not sure a party is a party unless somebody has chucked Dylan on when the sun comes up. My dear friends live in Raglan street… I ride my bike there over the hill…This song really makes me smile. A lot of memories came out of that place.”

Old Crow Medicine Show Announces Seventh Studio Album, ‘Paint This Town’

Today, Old Crow Medicine Show announces Paint This Town, the band’s seventh studio album releasing April 22, 2022. Paint This Town is a return to form for Old Crow Medicine Show, showcasing their ability to merge profound introspection with the rapturous string band revival sound. The album is their most incisive body of work to date and shines a light on the darker aspects of the American experience with character-driven songs underpinned by the band’s vision for a more harmonious future.

Pre-order Paint This Town on limited “Aurora Sky” vinyl here.

The band also shares a music video for the album’s title trackPaint This Town,” a swinging anthem that fully embodies the band’s carefree troublemaking over the last two decades. The video was directed by Travis Nicholson and turns back time to show younger versions of the band’s six members.

“This song is about growing up in a small town, and having to make fun wherever you could find it,” explains bandleader Ketch Secor. “Our band has always drawn its inspiration from those elemental American places, where water towers profess town names, where the Waffle House and the gas station are the only spots to gather; this is the scenery for folk music in the 21st century. And the John Henry’s and Casey Jones of today are the youth who rise up out of these aged burgs undeterred, undefeated, and still kicking.”

Old Crow Medicine Show is currently on tour and will return to the Ryman Auditorium for their annual New Years Eve performances on December 30 and 31. Find a full list of tour dates below or at www.crowmedicine.com/tour.

Mattiel Announces Third Album, ‘Georgia Gothic’, and New Single Out Now

Atlanta-based duo Mattiel announces their new, and third, album Georgia Gothic is out March 18th, 2022.

Georgia Gothic serves as a re-introduction to the Georgia duo as collaborators, but also as a pair whose tastes, inspirations, and mutual adoration of their shared home state of Georgia intertwine with the music they make. With much of it recorded free of distractions and surrounded by northern Georgia forest, the album hones in on Mattiel and Jonah’s collective identity as a duo, working together and challenging one another to develop the sound that feels like home. The result is an album that embodies the otherworldly range and lovable oddity of their state’s musical tapestry, from country guitar and crooning Americana to shimmering pop-rock and hints of Atlanta hip-hop’s lasting influence, Georgia Gothic is Mattiel’s ode to home and how it shaped them.

Pre-order the limited edition “24K Gold” vinyl and picture disc options here.

The album’s announcement arrives with their lead single “Jeff Goldblum,” which was born out of front-woman and vocalist Mattiel Brown’s crush on the song’s namesake and is accompanied by a visual montage of scenes from the movies Earth Girls Are Easy and The Fly.

“Well, my crush on Jeff Goldblum is very real,” Brown says of the track. “He inspired the words – but this is more of a dream where a Jeff look-a-like meets me in a bathroom.”

Nilüfer Yanya Announces Sophomore Album, ‘PAINLESS’

Nilüfer  Yanya announces her sophomore album, PAINLESSout on March 4, 2022. The upcoming album was recorded between a basement studio in Stoke Newington and Riverfish Music in Penzance, with Miss Universe collaborator and producer Wilma Archer, DEEK Recordings founder Bullion, Big Thief producer Andrew Sarlo, and musician Jazzi Bobbi.

PAINLESS is a record that forces the listener to sit with the discomfort that accompanies so many of life’s biggest challenges whether it be relationship breakdowns, coping with loneliness, or the search for our inner self. “It’s a record about emotion,” Yanya explains. “I think it’s more open about that in a way that Miss Universe wasn’t because there’s so many cloaks and sleeves with the concept I built around it.” She adds, summing up the ethos of the new album, “I’m not as scared to admit my feelings”.

Pre-order the limited-edition green vinyl here.

Yanya releases her debut single and music video for “stabilise”, commenting, “I was really thinking about your surroundings and how much they influence or change your perception of things. A lot of the city is just grey and concrete, there’s no escape,” she says, “A lot of people don’t leave the city their whole lives, wherever they’re from.”

Neal Francis Releases Sophomore Album, ‘In Plain Sight’

Today, Neal Francis releases his sophomore record In Plain Sight, via ATO Records. The record is a body of work both strangely enchanted and painfully self-aware, unfolding in songs sparked from Greek myths and frenzied dreams and late-night drives in the depths of summer delirium. True to its charming complexity, the singer/songwriter/pianist’s second full-length came to life over the course of a tumultuous year spent living in a possibly haunted church in Chicago. The result: a portrait of profound upheaval and weary resilience, presented in a kaleidoscopic sound that’s endlessly absorbing

Order In Plain Sight on cherry-red colored vinyl here.

“When I started the process of writing these songs, I was so emotionally out-of-sorts and really kind of hopeless that I’d be able to come up with anything,” says Francis. “But then I sat down and started working, and embraced whatever inspiration came my way. Sometimes it felt like beating my head against a wall, but I tried to trust that it would lead somewhere. The whole thing was like a weird dream—this very strange time of terrible, wonderful isolation.”

Midlake Announces Fifth Studio Album ‘For The Sake of Bethel Woods’

Midlake eagerly announces their fifth studio album, For The Sake of Bethel Woods, their first since Antiphon in 2013. The new album arrives on March 18, 2022, via ATO Records in North America.

Loss and hope, isolation and communion, the cessation and renewal of purpose. Timeless and salient, these themes echo throughout For The Sake of Bethel Woods. Produced to layered, loving perfection by John Congleton, the new album has immersive warmth and mystery from a band of ardent seekers, one of our generation’s finest: a band once feared lost themselves by fans, perhaps, but here revivified with freshness and constancy of intent.

Pre-order the 180- gram blue seafoam wave deluxe vinyl here.

The announcement comes with the album’s first single. “Meanwhile… is a song referencing the time in between what transpired leading up to our hiatus in ‘14, and what inspired us to reconvene in ’20,” says Eric Pulido. “The former being an unhealthy and unsustainable place that called for pause and the latter a serendipitous visit from Jesse’s late father (Dave Chandler, depicted on the album cover) in a dream encouraging him to reunite with the band. Everyone had their respective experience during the uncertain time apart culminating in a confident and celebratory return to form.”
