After releasing the politically charged solo album Eternally Even in 2016, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James returns with Tribute To 2, a collection of cover songs that reverberate with fresh meaning. Blurring the boundaries of time and genre, James interprets songs made famous by a wide variety of artists – ranging from early 20th century standards by Ray Noble and Al Bowlly (“Midnight, the Stars and You,” “Love is the Sweetest Thing”) and 1960’s songs by Willie Nelson and Sonny & Cher to Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s 1970 breakthrough hit “Lucky Man” and 1990’s releases by Abbey Lincoln and Diane Izzo. Tribute To 2 will be released on December 8 via ATO Records. See below for track listing.
“Even though she released this song in 1991 it felt so relevant to right now,” James explained. “I think so many of us feel the world is falling apart right now – that the powers that be are trying to divide us and rip us apart … when I heard that song it just resonated deeply because there is such pain there but I feel she also is offering hope and realization that we need each other’s help in times of crisis.”

SPIN then described the EP as “spare and somber – just that windy Americana tenor against a squeaky acoustic guitar … Many of us remember where we were when Harrison died; now we hear when James began to heal.”

Lee Ann Womack releases alluring “All The Trouble” video today

Lee Ann Womack released the official video for “All The Trouble,” the lead single from her most recent critically acclaimed record ‘The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone’ (ATO). NPR says ‘The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone’ is an album “bound for the country canon.” It was named one of the best albums of 2017 on multiple NPR lists, along with Wall Street Journal, Billboard, Garden & Gun, Rolling Stone Country and Stereogum, who named it the #1 country album of the year. DIGITAL MASTERS & ARTWORK:
This is the best option if you wish to download the album for personal use. Available as high-quality MP3 files 320 kbps (≈100 MB) or uncompressed WAV files (≈500 MB). Each version contains hi-res digital artwork of the front cover at 4000 x 4000 resolution.
CD MASTERS & ARTWORK:
If you wish to press CDs you will need to download the DDP master and CD Artwork template. The DDP master is the format used for identifying information on optical discs. This master has the tracklist, ISRC codes & metadata embedded. In this .ZIP file you will also find a folder with a CD template, front cover art and extra artwork for back cover, inner tray, spine and booklet that you will need to put together yourself.
VINYL MASTERS & ARTWORK:
The vinyl master is a completely separate master to CD & Digital masters. There are physical limitations to what the head of the lathe can produce when cutting vinyl. For this reason these files will not sound normal on generic Hi Fi speakers. Only use this master if you wanna press vinyl. It will contain a Side A and a Side B WAV file as well as a PQ log for both sides with metadata for the pressing plant. In this .ZIP file you will also find a record cover template and a folder full of artwork ideas you can use to make your own back cover, spine and inner sleeve.
Ever wanted to start your own record label? GO for it! Employ your mates, press wax, pack boxes. We do not own this record. You do. Go forth, share, enjoy.
P.s. If u wanna make cassettes I don’t really know what you would do. Be creative. We did it once but it sounded really shit. Maybe try the WAVs idano.”
Nilüfer Yanya, London’s 22-year-old “effortlessly smooth new soul star” (The FADER) is out today with the ALASKALASKA remix of her “Best New Track” (Pitchfork) current single “Baby Luv.” With a bass-heavy, psychedelic groove pulsing through in place of the sparse, Pixies-by-way-of-Jeff-Buckley guitar chords of the original “Baby Luv,” the remix proves Nilüfer’s boundless range and “her status as one of the most promising new artists of the year” (Pitchfork).
The original “Baby Luv” has been hailed as “enchanting in its plaintive simplicity” by Stereogum, and “lush and addictive, with all the organic pop pep of 90s anthems,” by The Line of Best Fit. The track is transformed into a seductive and trance-like banger on the remix by the eclectic London six-piece, and Billboard called it “hypnotic.” Listen to it HERE and stream or download the original “Baby Luv” HERE.
Watch her video for the “sparse and arresting” track “Baby Luv” via The FADER:
“With Jeff Buckley and Nina Simone running through the veins of her songwriting, she uses her low, deadpan vocal and minimalist guitar to tell a deeply relatable story.”– The FADER
“A mesmerizing singer, with a haunting voice that suggests not only wisdom but also pain well beyond her years, as well as a killer ear for melody.”– NYLON
“BEST NEW TRACK…This is new music, post-post-punk, with some new wave guitar shimmer, the vocal cadence of snotty young rappers, and hints of jazz wafting.” Pitchfork
“Her voice and lyrics are all that’s needed to grab your attention and not let go.” – Pigeons & Planes
Emerging in 2016 with her debut EP ‘Small Crimes,’ Nilüfer Yanya has gone on to establish herself as one of the most promising British songwriters and guitarists of her generation. Nilüfer’s 2017 follow up EP, ‘Plant Feed,’ proved her breakthrough moment with Pitchfork crowning her a ‘Rising’ artist, MistaJam selecting her as a ‘New Name’ on BBC Radio 1 and Broken Social Scene and The XX all handpicking her to perform as support at their headline dates.
Watch the video for “Golden Cage,” which Pitchfork previously said “is the kind of song you love to sing, sure, but it’s as much the kind of song you want to be”:
Outside of her solo work, Nilüfer also runs a charitable organization, Artists In Transit, along with her sister Molly Daniel — who also co-directs Nilüfer’s stunning DIY videos with her boyfriend Patrick Chamberlain. Artists In Transit aims to assist displaced people entering Europe through arts and music lessons and is funded in part by a zine, My Friend, created by the sisters.
Supported extensively by Pitchfork (”Golden Cage’, Best New Track’ and ‘Rising’), The FADER, i-D (‘Class of 2017’), Pigeons and Planes, The Line Of Best Fit (‘Ones To Watch 2017’), NME, DIY (‘The Big Neu Thing’), The Sunday Times (‘Breaking Act’), The Observer (‘One To Watch’) and a host of BBC tastemaker DJs including Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq and Matt Wilkinson, Nilüfer has confirmed herself as a singular, exceptional, and in-demand new talent.

We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world, beyond the horizon.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt
In his new video for “Believe,” Benjamin Booker takes us on a surrealistic journey through military training with striking visuals from director James Lees (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bloc Party), who previously directed Booker’s double-video for “Slow Coming/Wicked Waters”. Watch now via Pitchfork.
“Believe” is from Benjamin Booker’s new album Witness – get it here now.
Says director James Lees: “We wanted to create something inherently musical and entertaining whilst still being a meditation on the themes within the song. Feeling lost and directionless, the inherent human need to find a sense of belonging and the many false roads you find yourself down that ultimately fail to provide a purpose in life we all feel pressured to identify in adulthood.”
“Believe” is off Booker’s latest album ‘Witness’, available now – get it HERE. which has earned career-best raves and spotlights from Time Magazine, FADER, the NY Times, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, NPR Music + more, as well as a performance on Conan last month. Check out the performance of psych-punk album highlight “Right On You” here.
Booker just wrapped up an extensive US tour last week with some of his biggest shows to date – including festival plays at ACL, Voodoo + more – with The Chicago Tribune calling his recent show at Thalia Hall “hypnotic…putting black pain to stripped yet powerful beats and rhythms that shake.” Booker heads overseas next month to kick off a European run – see all dates at his website.

NPR First Listen streamed the record before its release, calling it “an album that shows Womack to be one of American roots music’s foremost auteurs, one with a compelling voice for storytelling and the vision to use it to powerful effect,” while LA Times says the album is “one of the most personal albums of her impressive career.”
Produced by her husband Frank Liddell (2017 ACM Album of the Year winning producer for Miranda Lambert’s ‘The Weight of These Wings’) and largely recorded at the legendary SugarHill Studios in Houston, TX, ‘The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone‘ features more Lee Ann Womack co-writes than all her previous albums combined, making it her most personal collection to date. The album mixes the country, soul, gospel and blues of her native East Texas, into an audacious, sharp-edged work of art.

SOJA, the internationally acclaimed GRAMMY-nominated eight-piece from Washington D.C., has just released its new album ‘Poetry in Motion’. Get it now on black and gold splatter vinyl, limited edition picture disc, CD or digital: http://smarturl.it/soja-pim
SOJA will host special album release shows at D.C.’s Anthem on December 29th and will headline 5,000+ capacity arenas across Brasil. Tickets are on-sale now at SOJA’s website.
SOJA’s core sound – an uplifting meld of reggae, go-go, D.C. hardcore, Latin, rock, and hip-hop – is as tight and compelling as it’s ever been in the group’s 20 year history, but now the group digs deeper on its message of finding peace and understanding in the world caught in tribulation. For the band, having fun and social awareness can, and should, co-exist. “More” is a Bob Marley-influenced manifesto to fight greed by being content with what you got and “Bad News” looks for hope in tragic headlines.
“‘More’ is about consumption and envy,” explains Lead singer Jacob Hemphill. “It’s about the false belief that you need more stuff to be happy [and] about trying to strip all that away and finding happiness in the truth that less is more.”
Hemphill continues, “‘Poetry in Motion’ is about us, the human race. We’re beautiful. We’re the caretakers of this earth and everything that lives here, calls it home. But something is wrong. Something in us is lost. That’s the focus – how to get back to the beauty and away from… well, this.”
The members of SOJA, some of whom met in middle school, are stars among the international reggae and jam-band worlds. The band has over 400 million YouTube views and over 7 million social media followers. They have headlined shows in over 30 countries and just wrapped up a 31-date U.S. co-headline tour with The Dirty Heads that included a sold out show at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado.
SOJA’s last two albums ‘Amid The Noise and Haste’ (2014) and ‘Live In Virginia’ (2016) each earned the band a GRAMMY nomination in the ‘Best Reggae Album’ category. They have received recent media acclaim from Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR, The Washington Post, and more. With all these accolades and devoted global fan base, these talented musicians use explosive energy and positivity to reach its audience and help them relate to the world and to each other.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard has released a new song “Crumbling Castle” – listen to it above. The band shared the track with a cryptic message:
In the presence of a mirror, my sensory foax-organs detect discontent on my facial image. I cry a digital tear. Motor fluid. Escaping to the floor, it reflects my silhouette. Frigid, slouched, callous. My smell escapes me. A rancid odour. I am everywhere. I am light. I am a reflection. I am that which I am. And I am violent. And I want it to end. Stillness from the grinding gears. I am a raging droid, with a full tank of propellant. Flick the switch. Turn them off. Standby. Cut the cord. Death is a lamb in a wolf’s clothes. A blessing from the lord satan. I am on the altar. I want it. The saccharine of eternal rest. I wish to consume it’s sickly syrup, and lick it from my many fingers. Take me into the moonless night. I need it. Any way I pass will do.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard has announced a plan to release five albums in 2017. Their first three, Flying Microtonal Banana, Murder of the Universe, and Sketches of Brunswick East are out now and the band has done two sold-out headlining tours in the US this year. Pick up the albums now at the ATO store and follow the band for updates:
Nick Hakim‘s music video for “Cuffed” evokes and reimagines the rituals of the Venezuelan followers of Maria Lionza – watch the video now, which was directed by Daniel Kaufman (Diddy; DJ Khaled feat. Future & Jay Z) and features the performance art of FlucT, and read an interview with the director via The FADER.
Of the video, Kaufman said, “For me, the video is about a violent expulsion of negativity–because catharsis is always violent. I’d like people to feel that odd mix of disbelief, confusion, aversion, and perverse joy.” Nick Hakim added, “my favorite part of this process was getting to know everyone else in the couple days we spent working on this video: in one day all of us connected with one another and found trust within one another. It was truly therapeutic. The land we were on was extremely beautiful. I feel blessed to have worked with such talented and amazing artists.”
Nick Hakim is on tour now in the US, and heads to Europe for extensive dates with Fleet Foxes and Bonobo next month – see full dates below.
Of the record, Mayfield comments, “The whole record is about me taking my life back, without really realizing it. I realized I’m the only person that is going to look out for me. I have to be my main person. No one else.” She continues, “I have to sing about things and write about things that have happened to me as therapy. That’s what connects me to other music I listen to. I want music to make me feel things. This is my inner dialogue, and my chance to get the last word.”
Watch Jessica’s video for “Sorry is Gone”:
“She doesn’t hide or hold back—a raw, fierce attitude runs through the confessional stanzas.”
—NPR Music
“Jessica Lea Mayfield is sweet and lonesome, and maybe a little mischievous, on this, the beautiful, gentle country-rock title track from her coming fourth studio album.”
—The New York Times
“Jessica Lea Mayfield’s fourth album, Sorry Is Gone, sees the sharp-tongued and suave Ohio musician more confident than ever before.”—Stereogum
“Sorry Is Gone is clamorous and dynamic, reflective of Mayfield’s rare gift of seeming equally steady and chameleonic from album to album.”—LENNY
“She succeeds with this tricky balance due to a great band, expertly rendered songs that split the difference between angst and honesty, and a voice that’s both vicious and resigned while singing about a horrific time that you hope is finally behind her. The backstory leading to Sorry is Gone may not be the type you’d wish on anyone, but in the hands of Jessica Lea Mayfield, it has resulted in compelling art.”—American Songwriter
Following an extensive fall tour, Mayfield and her band will embark on a series of newly announced dates in 2018 including shows in Dallas, Austin, San Diego, L.A., San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Denver and more. All tickets are now on-sale at https://site.jessicaleamayfield.com/tour. See below for complete dates!
The 11-track record was recorded at Water Music and Electric Lady studios with producer John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Phosphorescent). In addition to Mayfield, the album features a variety of world-renowned musicians including Seth Avett on backing vocals and keys, drummer Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth, Sun Kil Moon), bassist Emil Amos (Grails, Holy Sons) and guitarist Cameron Deyell (Sia, Streets of Laredo.) with additional production from Patrick Damphier (The Mynabirds).
Sorry Is Gone is Mayfield’s first solo album since 2014’s Make My Head Sing…, which was released to widespread acclaim. Of the album, Rolling Stone asserted, “…Mayfield’s echo-laden bluegrass vocals mesh with scorching electric guitar lines to render remarkable results,” while Pitchfork praised, “There’s something certainly compelling about this raw, minimalist sound” and NPR’s Fresh Air proclaimed, “The music is heavy, but it soars.” Additionally Interview Magazine declared, “Mayfield sounds like she’s finally arrived” and USA Today affirmed, “Her evolution as an artist has been fascinating to hear.” Most recently, in 2015, Mayfield collaborated with Seth Avett on Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliott Smith.
