New ATO Artist Pachyman Announces Album and Releases Single

ATO Records is thrilled to announce an upcoming album –The Return of… from our new signing Pachyman. This project is a one-man dub reggae band created by Pachy García who hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he grew up immersed in the music of local reggae heroes Cultura Profética and classic Jamaican dub records from King Tubby and Scientist. After relocating to Los Angeles, he fell in with the weekly Echo Park reggae night Dub Club and began creating his own dub music, influenced by the Caribbean sounds of his youth, and recording guitar, bass, drums, and piano in his basement studio.

The upcoming album is out everywhere August 13, you can pre-order the limited edition pink vinyl here.

Alongside the album announce, Pachyman has shared the album’s firest summery single “Big Energy” accompanied by a video showing him at work in his home studio. García describes “Big Energy” as: “Minimalism and repetition. A small moment to reflect about the space between music and listener while the rhythm instruments sparsely introduce themselves. The perfect send off track to the beginning of an adventure. A palette cleanser if you will. An ode to Scientist and Roots Radics, the perfect combination.”

New Single from Dylan LeBlanc Plus EP Announce

Dylan LeBlanc is paying homage to the artists who inspired his unique sound with the upcoming Pastimes EP, due out June 18, a self-produced collection of six covers that LeBlanc says inspired him musically and spiritually.

Pastimes was recorded at Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, live and with as few takes as possible in order to capture a sense of authenticity. Says LeBlanc, “I feel like music is nothing more than a spiritual endeavor to widen the horizons and heighten the senses of the things inside of everyone that sometimes feel unreachable.”

The release is will also be available on orange vinyl, shipping in early November which you can pre-order here.

Today LeBlanc also shares his cover of Glen Campbell’s “Gentle on My Mind,” the country legend’s 1967 four-time Grammy-winning hit.

“I come from a heavy country music background,” says LeBlanc. “My father made his living as a writer for the Nashville Machine growing up. My grandfather in the early 70’s in his early thirties was convinced to make payments on a Gibson guitar on consignment at the local music store along with a song book with the scales and chords and hit songs of the era inside with directions on how to play them. He loved this song and it was heavily played around the house and passed and sang at gatherings and parties where everyone was drinking and laughing and feeling no pain as they say. I love the story of this song about a drifter roaming from place untethered to anyone or anything therefore making the moment of missing his muse more pure. I can relate as I have naturally always wanted to roam from place to place and be free. I love this song so much and it holds a nostalgic and wonderful place in my heart.”

Rodrigo y Gabriela’s JAZZ EP Out Now and Tour Announced

GRAMMY® Award-winning guitar virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela release their JAZZ EP today. Available on Cloudy Orange vinyl (limited to 3,000 copies worldwide and individually numbered). Rod and Gab’s recently released heroic interpretation of “Street Fighter Mas” by tenor sax giant Kamasi Washington, their sublime interplay with flamenco-guitar legend Vicente Amigo on Astor Piazzolla’s timeless “Oblivion,” have helped introduce their magical guitar interplay to a whole new world of music fans. Today, they get to hear the duo’s distinctive take on Snarky Puppy‘s “Lingus.”

“For the final track on the JAZZ EP, we really enjoyed the challenge of arranging and recording this epic 2014 track by jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy for two guitars,” says Rodrigo.

“The response from our fans to our interpretations of the tracks by Kamasi Washington and Astor Piazzolla has been incredibly gratifying,” adds Gabriela. “We really hope they will now enjoy the JAZZ EP as a complete listening experience, as it was a blast for us to put all the music together.”

“When I first heard Rodrigo y Gabriela’s take on ‘Lingus,’ my jaw hit the floor,” says Snarky Puppy’s Michael League. “Taking a song written for 16 people and doing it with two is no small task, but what struck me most was the way in which they made it their own while preserving the heart of the composition.”

Okkervil River Releases New Music and Announces Tour

Okkervil River’s Will Sheff will return to the stage this fall on a co-headlining U.S. tour with Damien Jurado. The tour, which kicks off on September 21 with two dates at Evanston, IL’s SPACE and wraps December 11 at Bellingham, WA’s Wild Buffalo, includes shows in Nashville, Brooklyn, Big Sur, and two nights at Portland’s Mississippi Studios. All dates are below and tickets are on pre-sale now and will be on sale to the public on Friday HERE.

Alongside the tour announcement, Okkervil River releases a new song “In A Light,” the band’s first new music since its acclaimed 2018 LP In the Rainbow Rain. A second new track, “It Hasn’t Happened Yet,” will be released this Friday, May 14.

“I wrote ‘In a Light’ with our guitarist Will Graefe right before I moved out of Brooklyn,” says Sheff. “We recorded it in one take at Figure 8 studios, with Frank LoCrasto adding piano and Ryan Dugre on second guitar. It sounded great instantly, but it didn’t seem like the right moment to release the track, and the track didn’t seem to be quite at home on In the Rainbow Rain. So I kept it under my hat. I’d had ‘It Hasn’t Happened Yet’ kicking around as well, and I’d always wanted to release that one on its own but I could never get the recording to sit quite right. Finally I had a tandem eureka moment with both of them – I figured out what I needed to do to fix ‘It Hasn’t Happened Yet’ and I felt the time was right for ‘In a Light.’ So I brushed them off and sent them to Dave Cerminara to mix. The whole process was incredibly smooth and easy. I think of these songs as two sides of the same coin, supporting each other by saying two different but complementary things. And even though I started them a couple years in the past they both seem to want to talk about the present and future.”

Mattiel Releases Double Single ‘Those Words’ & Official Video

Mattiel, the Atlanta-based rock band of vocalist and songwriter Mattiel Brown as well as guitarist and producer Jonah Swilley, return today with two original tracks, the magnetic new single “Those Words” and its towering B-Side “Freedom Feels.”

“I think everyone can relate to a song like ‘Those Words’ – it’s really just about choosing who to give your energy to,” says Brown, “If someone isn’t treating you with respect or crosses your boundaries, you don’t owe them anything. It’s an especially good reminder if you’re a person who tends to try to please everyone. Women are taught to do this from a very young age. It’s just not possible to make everyone happy, so you might as well sing and dance those cares away.”

Listen to “Those Words” / “Freedom Feels”, and pre-order the limited 500 copy U.S. exclusive turqouise 7-inch here.

Today the band also premieres the vibrant “Those Words” video, which was directed, produced, and edited by Brown herself.

“We shot this in mid March so it’s very fresh and new energy for us – we are all just so excited to get out there and play shows again,” she says. “We’re a very close bunch and it’s really just us having a good time, and I think that shines through the whole thing. It feels like the light at the end of the Covid tunnel is starting to shine brighter and brighter, too. We’re almost there.”

The Murlocs Announce New Album ‘Bittersweet Demons’ & Unveil First Track & Video “Francesca”

The Murlocs have announced details of their new album, Bittersweet Demons, to be released on June 25. Today’s news comes with the first track – and a new video – from the exhilarating Australian rock band. Pre-order the album here!

Francesca” was written as a rip-roaring celebration of the rejuvenated life of frontman Ambrose Kenny-Smith’s mom. With music written by Murlocs’ keyboard and guitarist Tim Karmouche, Ambrose says of the lyrics,“The song is about my mother and how she had been lost for love since the separation from my father when I was 10. In the last year and a half or so she’s found love again, with a very close family friend of ours, someone who has always been a godfather and mentor to me in many ways. This has changed her spirit immensely for the better. You can really see the pop in her step as this enormous weight has been lifted off her shoulders.”

Citing some of his favorite songs as being odes to impressive women – like Van Morrison’s “Gloria” – Ambrose explains, “Francesca is my mother’s middle name and I’ve always loved it so much.” Of turning his songwriting lens to his mother, and celebrating her rediscovered joie de vivre, he adds,“It’s probably the most positive, feel-good song we’ve ever done. It’s also the closest we’ve ever come to having an 80’s phase.

Directed by Alex McLaren, the “Francesca” video was shot at the end of April 2020. The band’s hometown of Melbourne, Australia was coming out of one of its first short Covid lockdown periods and restrictions had eased for a short period of time. The band and director quickly jumped on the opportunity to shoot while they had the chance.

Says Ambrose, “I remembered being at a festival and bumping into our longtime video-clip collaborator and friend, Alex Mclaren. I had brought him back to our campsite and he played the song “I Love LA” by Randy Newman which ultimately brought the tents down and got the party started.” Newman’s 1983 classic soft top music video informed “Francesca”, with the car footage being shot along Ivanhoe Boulevard in Melbourne where Ambrose’s mom grew up.

The theme of celebrating loved ones continues on the album, which is equal parts character study and adoring homage. With Bittersweet Demons The Murlocs share a collection of songs reflecting on the people who leave a profound imprint on their lives, the saviors and hellraisers and assorted other mystifying characters. The most personal and boldly confident work yet, the album sets that storytelling to 11 infectious tracks written mostly on piano, lending a greater emotional intensity to the band’s restless and radiant brand of garage-rock. What emerges is a beautifully complex body of work, one that shines a light on the fragilities of human nature while inducing the glorious head rush that accompanies any Murlocs outing.

Emily King Premieres New Single “First Time”

Grammy-nominated Emily King returns with her first new music of 2021 today, the emotional new single “First Time.” “It’s remembering what it feels like to have been loved,” King says of the song. “To go back to that place in your mind at the time when you feel most alone.” “First Time,” which is the first of what will be more new song releases this year, premiered today on KCRW, who said, “The track supersedes time and genre, with King’s voice and lyrics cutting to the chase of human experience — a welcome reminder that behind our weary and weathered exteriors, tenderness is just a memory (or song) away.” King wrote “First Time” and co-produced it with Ben Kane, the Grammy-winning producer/engineer who previously worked on her Grammy-nominated 2019 LP Scenery and is known for his work with D’Angelo, PJ Morton, and Anderson. Brittany Howard Releases Remix Song “Stay High” by Fred again.. and Joy Anonymous

Brittany Howard has released a remix of her solo song “Stay High,” made in collaboration with producer Fred again.. and singer Joy Anonymous.

The reworked recording “Stay High again..”, is available everywhere and accompanied by a video described as an “indie disco dance party.” The track, available here, is the latest entry in a series of remixes Howard has been releasing of songs from her 2019 debut solo album, Jaime.

“When I was approached about doing my first dance remix of a song, I was excited to give it a shot as it was something completely different than anything else that had been done for the Jaime remix project. What Fred again.. and Joy Anonymous created from ‘Stay High’ is not only fun to dance to, it is really creative, inspired and most importantly emotional. They even figured out a way to sneak samples from two other songs off the album!”

Howard has previously released remixes of the Jaime songs “13th Century Metal,” “Goat Head” and “Short and Sweet.”
