Emily King Announces New Album Scenery & New Track “Look At Me Now”

Pre-Order Scenery HERE

Lauded NY songstress Emily King has announced release plans for her long awaited new album. Scenery will be released via ATO on February 1st. The news comes as she drops a second track from the album, “Look At Me Now”, available on DSPs now.

The GRAMMY® nominated artist says of the track, “I wanted to write a song addressing someone who hurt you in the past. As if you just run into them on the street one day and now’s your chance to let them know how great you’ve been doing. But really, all you want is their attention. Insecurity disguised as swagger.”

News of Scenery’s impending release will delight King’s fans, who have been eagerly awaiting news since the release of new single “Remind Me” last month, and is already #8 on the KCRW airplay charts. The album, produced by long time musical cohort Jeremy Most and mixed Tom Elmhirst (Adele, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie) was recorded in upstate New York, nestled in the Catskill Mountains, where Emily now makes her home after a lifetime of Lower East Side living.  Scenery follows the critically acclaimed album The Switch (2015) which included the hit “Distance” (more than 13 million streams). Following the album’s release, King performed on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Conan, Prairie Home Companion, and toured with Alabama Shakes. This is her first release with ATO Records.

King has also announced additional tour dates for 2019 – on the heels of her handful of shows this month. She will visit Seattle, Chicago, DC and Philly this winter. File under Not To Be Missed.

Old 97’s Holiday Album, Love The Holidays, Out Now

Old 97’s have released their holiday album, Love The Holidays today. It is the beloved band’s first-ever collection of original Christmas songs and was produced, mixed and engineered by John Pedigo in the band’s home state of Texas.

The LP presents a sack full of rockin’ new Yuletide favorites, as well as Old 97’s take on the New Year’s Eve standard, “Auld Lang Syne.” Among its many highlights are the title track, co-written with Kevin Russell (The Gourds, Shinyribs), “Gotta Love Being A Kid (Merry Christmas)” and “Snow Angels,” both co-written with acclaimed writer Ben Greenman, and the continuing saga of everyone’s favorite reindeer, “Rudolph Is Blue,” co-written by Old 97’s and Dan Bern.

Rhett Miller and Old 97’s will celebrate the release of Love The Holidays as well as Miller’s recently released solo album, The Messenger, with the “Old 97’s Holiday Extravaganza Tour,” an eagerly anticipated U.S. holiday tour, headlined by Old 97’s and opened by a solo acoustic set from Miller. The dates begin November 28 at The Neptune in Seattle, WA and then continue through late December.

“We’re going to hit the road right after Thanksgiving,” Miller says. “The evening will begin with me doing an acoustic set. I’ll play some of my new songs, some from my solo catalogue, and probably a few oddball songs too. Then I’ll leave the stage, Michael Casey will come out, he’s a punk rock magician from Raleigh, NC, he’s super-brilliant, he’s going to do a magic show before I come back out with the Old 97’s and we do the full Old 97’s Holiday Extravaganza.”

Rhett Miller’s New Album The Messenger Out Now

“The Messenger is an intimate, unflinching reflection on what makes Rhett Miller tick… a personal, contemplative statement.” – American Songwriter Magazine

PURCHASE + STREAM THE MESSENGER

ATO is excited to announce that Rhett Miller’s new solo album, THE MESSENGER, is out today. Recorded earlier this year over five days at The Isokon in Woodstock, NY with producer/musician Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby, Benjamin Booker), THE MESSENGER sees Miller playing it faster and looser than perhaps any other time in his quarter century career, instilling what might be his most personal songs to date with a groovy limberness that belies the reflective darkness within. Backed by a white hot backing combo comprised of Cohen (Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Pedal Steel Guitar, Piano, Organ, Second Drumset), Brian Betancourt (Bass), and Ray Rizzo (Drums), Miller goes deep into his own youthful experiences with suicide and depression, placing “a long distance phone call to myself as a 14-year-old” on surprisingly buoyant new songs like “The Human Condition” and “Permanent Damage.” Miller has also teamed with Caldecott Medalist and bestselling artist Dan Santat for No More Poems, a riotous collection of irreverent poems for modern families to be published March 5, 2019 by Little, Brown Books For Young Readers.

“I wanted this record to be less safe,” Miller says. “I wanted to put myself in the hands of a producer who was going to do things that I didn’t expect; I wanted to play with people I didn’t know and be surprised by what they came up with. And all of that really came to pass. That’s what you’re getting with this record. You’re getting this locked-in rhythm section with a crazy, psychedelic guitar maestro playing along with me singing my songs about depression and insecurity.”

ATO is also excited to announce that Old 97’s first-ever collection of original Christmas songs, LOVE THE HOLIDAYS, is available today to be streamed in its entirety via the Bitter Southerner. Out Friday, November 16, the album was produced, mixed & engineered by John Pedigo in the band’s home state of Texas. The LP presents a sack full of rockin’ new Yuletide favorites, as well as Old 97’s take on the New Year’s Eve standard, “Auld Lang Syne” and other holiday favorites. Among its many highlights are the title track, co-written with Kevin Russell (The Gourds, Shinyribs), “Gotta Love Being A Kid (Merry Christmas)” and “Snow Angels,” both co-written with acclaimed writer Ben Greenman, and the continuing saga of everyone’s favorite reindeer, “Rudolph Is Blue,” co-written by Old 97’s and Dan Bern.

Melbourne, Australia’s Oh Pep! are back with their sophomore effort, I Wasn’t Only Thinking About You…, out now on ATO Records. Today, the duo share the first single and accompanying music video for the track, “What’s The Deal With David” directed by Samantha Scaffidi. Of the bright, irresistible sing-along track, Oh Pep!’s Olivia Hally’s notes, “I wrote that as a note for (bandmate) Pepi (Emmerichs). It’s that excited energy about two friends talking about their love life.” Oh Pep! will be out on tour throughout North America, Australia and Europe with both headlining dates and dates supporting Gregory Alan Isakov and Middle Kids.

I Wasn’t Only Thinking About You… marks the follow up to Oh Pep!’s critically acclaimed debut Stadium Cake. The return at once captures their spirit, their curiosity, their imminent likability. Throughout, the new LP thoughtfully explores the melody-rich expanse between indie pop and alt-folk, while coming of age and seeing the world. The duo burst first onto the scene with with a series of EP’s that caught the attention of legendary artists and critics alike. NPR called them “thoughtful, deep, funny, and poetic,” and appearance “Tiny Desk” netted them a dedicated and passionate audience stateside that has continued to grow. The New York Times marveled at how adept they were at “sharing a melody that’s both angular and affectionate.”

Since meeting at a performing arts school in Melbourne, Liv and Pep have wowed audiences with their virtuosity as instrumentalists but it’s their storytelling that has won over the hearts of their fans. Being thrust into a life of touring the world after Stadium Cake only gave them a wider pool to net these tales – the people they’ve met and the wonder they’ve felt seeing the world make up the vignettes on I Wasn’t Only Thinking About You…

Oh Pep! Will tour North America and Europe throughout the fall in support of I Wasn’t only Thinking About You…. Leg one kicks off in San Francisco on October 6th in support of Gregory Allen Isakov and includes headlining dates at World Cafe Live in Philly, U Street Music Hall in DC and Rough Trade in Brooklyn. The duo will then head to Europe for a tour with Middle Kids.

Jim James – Uniform Clarity is Out Now!

Uniform Clarity – which comprises intimate acoustic renditions of the songs originally found on 2018’s Uniform Distortion, along with two new tracks – arrives today via ATO Records.  Buy from your favorite retailer here.

“The idea for UNIFORM CLARITY came from UNIFORM DISTORTION,” says James, “an album of intentional chaos/dirt: literal and figurative distortion of lyrics and sound meant to echo and hopefully shed some light on the twisted times and distortion of the truth in which we now live. UNIFORM CLARITY is meant to illuminate the other side – raw and real, but very clear, much like in the early days of recording where all you could hear was the truth because there were no ways to manipulate recordings in the studio.  Working with Shawn Everett, we created a document style recording of these songs- just vocals, guitar and the space itself- no special FX. A crystal clear illustration of the flawed beauty of what a song starts off as or sometimes remains- a thought. a seed. a light from the womb of the universe brought to life down here on earth.”

UNIFORM CLARITY was recorded with GRAMMY® Award-winning producer/engineer Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, The War On Drugs).

Jim’s “The Future Is Voting Tour” begins next week, making stops in six college towns in electoral “swing districts” that James instigated in order to promote voter participation.  James will continue touring songs from Uniform Distortion/Uniform Clarity through November with career-spanning acoustic dates.
