Nilüfer Yanya Shares New Video For “Paradise”

“Best albums of 2019 so far” Lists
– Billboard, The Guardian, The Independent, Stereogum, Esquire and Exclaim!
“The rapturous debut from the British singer-songwriter takes adventurous pop-rock crucibles to new heights with her illusory songwriting and stunning voice.” -Pitchfork (8.3, Best New Music)
“Her voice is the center of the galaxy” -Wall Street Journal
“Bona fide indie anthems” -The Guardian
“On her debut album, Miss Universe, Yanya has pulled one more trick from her sleeve: crafting an entire world unto herself.” -NPR (First Listen)
“Yanya oozes starpower” -MTV

Nilüfer Yanya has today unveiled the video for “Paradise” – drawn from her critically lauded debut album Miss Universe, which came out in March, packed with stellar singles and powerful songwriting. ‘Paradise’ was filmed on location in Istanbul earlier this year while Yanya was performing in her father’s hometown as part of a sold-out Turkish, U.K. and European headline tour. Produced and directed by Yanya’s older sister Molly Daniel with camerawork and editing by Patrick Chamberlain, the “Paradise” video pays homage to Yanya’s heritage, while her lyrics question whether paradise is a place or a feeling.

Watch the official video for “Paradise” below
Largely recorded in the same remote English studio she used to jam in with her uncle Joe, a former musician himself, Miss Universe features co-productions with both her former school guitar teacher The Invisible’s Dave Okumu and her live bandmates Jazzi Bobbi and Luke Bower, as well as producers John Congleton, Oli Barton-Wood, Will Archer and M.T. Hadley. Inventive, expressive and rapturous, the album has seen Yanya deservedly hailed as a true original and a vitally important new voice in indie-rock.

Yanya will embark on another run of festivals across Europe, including Glastonbury later in June, before heading to North America for a run of shows in July including sold-out shows at NYC’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg and Chicago’s Sleeping Village. She will also appear at Newport Folk Festival, XPONential Festival and Celebrate Brooklyn! on this run. Dates can be seen below and tickets for all Nilüfer Yanya shows are available HERE.

Mattiel Release Album “Satis Factory and New Video “Food For Thought”

“With a cutting garage-rock guitar riff and vocals that squeal with excitement, Mattiel sound like they’re embracing their very own manifest destiny.” – Rolling Stone

“Singer Mattiel Brown is central: her personal stories driven by a search for meaning and her vocal melodies rooted in pop classicism are compelling. But it’s the strange controleld quaver of her delivery that completely mesmerises.” – MOJO (4 Stars)

“…twangy surf-rock guitars, bone-shaking country-blues rhythms and reverb-drenched Spector-ish runbles. Far from revential retro pastiche, (Mattiel) Brown blends old-school ingredients with punky lo-fi attitude and winningly deadpan humour…A lusty, witty, charismatic racket.” – UNCUT (8/10)

Out today! Mattiel, the already critically lauded Atlanta-based band fronted by charismatic 26-year old frontwoman Mattiel Brown, have released Satis Factory, co-produced by Randy Michael and Jonah Swilley. Rolling Stone wrote “Mattiel sound like they’re embracing their very own manifest destiny,” and in their four-star review, British music bible Q Magazine raves “an excellent record that both hits immediately and gets better with repeated listens.” With four stars from the UK’s esteemed MOJO Magazine and 8/10 from Uncut – who call it “A lusty, witty, charismatic racket” – the early response to Satis Factory is..um…way more than satisfactory. Today the band also share the dazzling video (featuring both Mattiel and her mom!) for the dazzling third single from the album, the impressive talking blues number “Food For Thought.”

WATCH FOR “FOOD FOR THOUGHT” VIDEO

An art director for a tech company prior to focusing on the band full time, the video was co-directed by Mattiel herself and oft-collaborator Jason Travis. Mattiel said: “We shot the video in a suburban home in Alabama, and I stayed up late the night before making these colorful jello platters inspired by 70’s cookbooks. It was a rushed job, but I had a lot of fun with it and thankfully the jello didn’t fall apart. Jason came over the next day and we shot as much as we could for the next two days. We both filled the role of, like, eight crew members. Jason was camera operator, director, DP, lighting grip, and editor. I took on the location scouting, set dressing, food styling, my own hair and makeup and wardrobe. I guess when there’s a will, there’s a way.”

Speaking on the song itself, Mattiel notes: “This song came to life when (guitarist and songwriting partner) Jonah (Swilley) sent me a song with this super-catchy baseline intro. It reminds of someone tiptoeing up to a podium to give a speech. And it did become a spoken-word piece. The lyrics are a reaction to my childhood memories of watching my friends become brainwashed into particular kind of life. I question a lot of those values. In a broad sense, it’s important to remember to find my own truth, and to maintain self-awareness when encountering regurgitated information. It can be tempting to conform.”

Working their way around the country before heading off to the UK where they’re A-listed on the BBC’s Radio6 Music and will play not once, but twice, at Glastonbury, the world’s largest music festival, Mattiel’s Satis Factory is shaping up to be a summer sensation in the UK and Europe. Satis Factory is the band’s second full length, but first for ATO Records.

Honey Harper Shares New Single “Tomorrow Never Comes” and Shares New Video For “Strawberry Lite”

“a gorgeous kind of spaced-out country that’s anchored by the musician’s clean, androgynous voice”– The FADER

“weightless in sound and heavy in feeling”– Pitchfork

“Fantastic… we’re excited to see what’s next for this guy.”Stereogum

Today, Honey Harper shares a new single to celebrate the arrival of summer. “Tomorrow Never Comes” arrives ahead of his headlining show at Mercury Lounge in NYC this Wednesday and serves as the latest offering of new music from Harper, following his recent two track EP that included previously-released singles “Strawberry Lite” and “Vaguely Satisfied.” Harper is also set to perform at Bonnaroo this week following is NYC appearance.

Speaking on his inspiration behind the new single, Honey Harper shares, “‘Tomorrow Never Comes is my ’70s alt-country sing-along turned krautrock jam that simply is about the early days of me and my wife/co-writer’s love and relationship. It’s a musical and personal celebration of summer. In the song, I sing about how my wife and I were possibly aligned/meant to be because of our astrological signs. She is a Gemini and I am a classic Leo so we begin and end the summer season (though not in strict astrological terms). So Happy Birthday to all the fellow Geminis and Leos and Happy Summer to everyone!”

Along with the new single, Harper is sharing a new visual for “Strawberry Lite.” Collaborating with director Catherine Hyland and director of photography Jorde Luis Dieguez, the video is an ode to Earth and nature, inspired by Harper’s lyrics of relief when setting foot back on solid ground after flying. The song served as the initial offering from Harper’s two-track EP, which is out now on 7″ vinyl and arrives ahead of his debut album due later this year.
With new music on the horizon, Honey Harper is gearing up to become the torchbearer for a revitalized country sound. Whilst he’s hard at work on his forthcoming debut album, he’ll also be performing a string of shows across North America including Bonnaroo and headlining shows in New York and Los Angeles this month. Dates across the UK with Mattiel to follow in July.

Dylan LeBlanc’s New Album “Renegade” Out Today

Dylan LeBlanc’s highly anticipated new album, Renegade, is out today!

Produced by Grammy Award winner Dave Cobb (Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton), the album was recorded at Nashville’s RCA Studio A and features ten new songs along with LeBlanc’s longtime band, The Pollies.

Of the album, LeBlanc comments, “I wanted to write the same type of songs that matched the atmosphere the band and I were bringing live. So, I started with ‘Renegade,’ which was fitting since I felt myself going in a new, more intense direction with this record. In the studio, I let go almost absolutely and let Dave Cobb do his work. It was a different experience for me—how focused Cobb was and how quickly we would get live takes down, mostly in one or two takes and never more than three. It left me spinning at how quickly it all came together. Over the course of ten days Renegade was complete and ready for mastering. And I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.”

Purchase your Limited Edition Red Vinyl here.
Watch “Renegade” filmed at FAME Studios below.

Also out today is the title track’s official performance video, which was filmed at the legendary FAME Studio’s in Muscle Shoals, AL. This video acted as a homecoming for LeBlanc, who began working at FAME Studios at the age of sixteen and where he later recorded his own music. Of the experience, LeBlanc comments, “It was surreal and brought me back to a time and place that I had almost forgotten. The only place where time always seems to stand still.”

Born in Shreveport, LA with time spent in Muscle Shoals, AL, LeBlanc has released three full-length albums including his most recent, 2016’s Cautionary Tale, which featured Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes) and was produced by John Paul White (The Civil Wars) and Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes). Of the music, NPR Music praised, “The third album from the Muscle Shoals singer-songwriter unfolds with the wariness of a social and spiritual outsider who broods his way to graceful defiance,” while No Depression declared, “There’s not a single song that deserves to be skipped on Tale—it’s a near flawless record, cohesive and self-assured.” Since his debut in 2010, LeBlanc has toured extensively worldwide including shows with Bruce Springsteen, First Aid Kit, Drive-By Truckers, Lucinda Williams, Alabama Shakes, Anderson East, The Wood Brothers and many more.

In celebration of the release, LeBlanc will embark on an extensive headline tour this summer, including shows at Atlanta’s The Earl, Los Angeles’ Troubadour, Brooklyn’s Rough Trade, Nashville’s Basement East, San Diego’s Casbah, London’s Omeara, Paris’s Les Etoiles and Berlin’s Privatclub among others. Mattiel Unveils “Je Ne Me Connais Pas” Video; New Album ‘Satis Factory’ Out June 14

Earlier today, Beats1 premiered the new track from the forthcoming Mattiel album Satis Factory. Je Ne Me Connais Pas” is the second song to be released from the June 14th full length. Satis Factory is the second album from Atlanta-based band, fronted by enigmatic singer Mattiel Brown. The single comes with an impressive Jason Travis-directed video in which Mattiel creates an unsavory male antihero.

Says, Mattiel: “There’s a line where I say ‘I’m a lone star man, I’m a dead ringer.’… The concept for the video stems from this – and it also stems from the dualities of my personality. But it’s absolutely exaggerated and lighthearted. We had a blast making it – and it was fun to freak myself out in the mirror. I genuinely felt different in drag, and I had a great time exploring this dirtbag character I conjured up. I learned that manspreading is a choice, and facial hair is really itchy. And I felt absolutely disgusting by the time we wrapped the shoot, so it was very much an immersive experience.”

New Rodrigo y Gabriela Album “Mettavolution” Out Now

“For nearly 20 years, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero have been marrying their love of metal with nylon-stringed acoustic guitars, releasing an impressive catalog of albums that showcase their remarkable dexterity and gift for reimagining heavy rock sounds as acoustic instrumentals.

Now comes one of their most surprising recordings to date.”

– NPR

Renowned guitar virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela have announced today’s premiere of their visceral new single, “Mettavolution,” the latest song form their eagerly awaited new album of the same name. The band’s fifth studio album arrives everywhere on April 26 via ATO Records. The song’s arrival is heralded today with its premiere via Guitar World magazine. METTAVOLUTION is available for order now, with the first 500 pre-orders receiving an exclusive autographed postcard from Rod and Gab themselves.

ORDER METTAVOLUTION

The duo’s first album in five years, METTAVOLUTION marks the most ambitious music of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s remarkable two-decade career. Three years in the making, the LP embraces the duo’s passionate interest in Buddhism, the history of human evolution and the liberation of the potential we have as a species, all expressed through the medium of two acoustic guitars. Mettavolution? “Metta” is a Sanskrit word for the meditative condition that produces compassion and benevolence. It is a “practical state of mind” as well, according to Gabriela, “something you practice like an instrument to become a better citizen, in a more evolved place.” Conceived and composed in their studio in Ixtapa on the Mexican Pacific Coast, the music of METTAVOLUTION was road-tested around the world on tour in 2017 and 2018 before being recorded late last year in Los Angeles with multiple GRAMMY-winning producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, A Perfect Circle, Band of Horses) behind the board.

METTAVOLUTION gathers six white-hot new Rodrigo y Gabriela compositions – much of which acknowledge the duo’s thrash-metal roots back in Mexico City – as well as an inspired, side-long cover of Pink Floyd’s sprawling “Echoes” – originally found on 1971’s MEDDLE – audaciously reimagined for two acoustic guitars. Rolling Stone recently hailed the 19-minute epic as a “Song You Need to Know,” noting, “(‘Echoes’) is such a signature song, it’s hard to imagine anyone else doing it justice, yet somehow the Mexican acoustic-rock duo Rodrigo y Gabriela landed on a brilliant interpretation… Like the original, the song is its own journey, and it’s beautiful.” “(Rodrigo y Gabriela) make (‘Echoes’) entirely their own,” wrote NPR Music, “turning the original version’s extended psych-jam and terrifying atmospherics into percussive knocks on their guitars and strings and other strange, tactile effects. It only gets better and more breathtaking the deeper you get into the track.”

LISTEN TO “ECHOES”

With career album sales now in excess of 1.5 million worldwide, Rodrigo y Gabriela have undoubtedly established themselves as the planet’s preeminent acoustic guitar duo, earning international acclaim and a fervent fan following with their awe-inspiring mastery of their instruments as well as a truly distinctive approach to melody, energy, and rhythm.

One of the world’s most in-demand live acts, Rodrigo y Gabriela have spent much of their remarkable 20-year career performing on increasingly larger stages around the globe. Highlights include sold out shows at such legendary venues as New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, Los Angeles, CA’s Hollywood Bowl, Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and Paris, FR’s Le Zenith, along with countless other theatres and concert halls in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan.

Altin Gün Announces New Album, Gece, Out Now

Listen to Süpürgesi Yoncadan

On April 26, Altin Gün will release their sophomore album Gece, which follows their 2018 debut record On. The Amsterdam-based six-member band are inspired by Turkish folk and psychedelia from the 60s & 70s, re-interpreting Anatolian rock and folk music and opening the doors between traditional Turkish folk songs and psych.

The band is sharing a new track from the album, called “Süpürgesi Yoncadan” alongside an animated lyric video today. Sung entirely in Turkish, the song is about falling for someone unexpectedly, as the narrator cries and suffers over unrequited love.

Gece is available for pre-order alongside a limited edition 7″ of “Süpürgesi Yoncadan”; both are available HERE. Altin Gün will tour the US for the first time this summer including appearing at Pickathon, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Brooklyn NY’s Rough Trade, Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, DC’s Rock & Roll Hotel, and LA’s Teragram Ballroom. The band was discovered and signed to ATO Records after an explosive performance at King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Gizzfest 2018 in Melbourne, Australia.

###
Altin Gün was inspired by founder and bass player Jasper Verhulst’s deep passion for Turkish folk and psychedelia. “The songs come out of a long tradition. This is music that tries to be a voice for a lot of other people,” he explains. Following their 2018 debut album On, Altin Gün returns with their sophomore album Gece on April 26 via ATO. The new record firmly establishes the band as masterful interpreters of the Anatolian rock and folk legacy, and as a leading voice in the emergent global psych scene.

While most of the material they present has been a familiar part of Turkish life for many years – some of it associated with the late national icon Neşet Ertaş – it’s never been interpreted like this before. This music is electric Turkish history, shot through with a heady buzz of 21st century intensity, filled with funk-like grooves and explosive psychedelic textures.

“We do have a weak spot for the music of the late ‘60s and ‘70s,” Verhulst admits. “With all the instruments and effects that arrived then, it was an exciting time. Everything was new, and it still feels fresh. We’re not trying to copy it, but these are the sounds we like and we’re trying to make them our own.”

And what they create really is their own. Altin Gün radically reimagine an entire tradition. The electric saz (a three-string Turkish lute) and voice of Erdinç Ecevit is urgent and immediately distinctive, while keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion power the surging rhythms and Merve Daşdemir sings with the mesmerizing power of a young Grace Slick.

Altın Gün (the name translates as “golden day”) formed in the Netherlands and grew from Verhulst’s obsession with Turkish music. He had been aware of it for some time but a trip to Istanbul while playing in another band gave him the chance to discover so much more. But Verhulst wasn’t content to just listen, he had a vision for what the music could be – and Altın Gün was born.

He explains, “None of this music is widely available in the Netherlands. Of course, since our singers are Turkish, they know many of these pieces. All this is part of the country’s musical past, their heritage, like ‘House of The Rising Sun’ is in America.” As Verhulst has delved into Turkish music, he’s continued to seek new songs that grab his ear. “Most of these songs have had hundreds of different interpretations over the years. I’m listening for something we can change and make into our own.  We need something that will make people stop and listen, as if it’s the first time they’ve heard it.”

On Gece, Altin Gün bring together music from many different Anatolian sources (the only original is the improvised piece “Şoför Bey”); echoing new textures and radiating a spectrum of vibrant color (ironic, as gece means “night” in Turkish). It’s the sound of a band both committed to its sources and excitedly transforming them. It’s the sound of Altın Gün. Incandescent and sweltering.

Honey Harper Shares New Single “Vaguely Satisfied” via Stereogum

Today, Honey Harper releases a new single as part of a two-track EP. “Vaguely Satisfied” arrives as the second-half of the new EP, which also includes his previously-released single “Strawberry Lite.” The new track is a forlorn tale of discontent, co-written with Italian-Greek singer-songwriter Mariangela Celeste, whose self-titled album Harper credits with helping him discover his new sound.

Speaking about the story and inspiration behind the song, Honey Harper shares, “In country music, the archetype of a break-up song is a common occurrence. I suppose in all music it is… This song does not represent a specific moment or personal relationship in my life. It’s a story of modern malaise and then, eventually, acceptance. It is perhaps an analogy to my general personal feelings on music, the ongoing world around me while it all seemingly goes to hell in a handbasket, me letting go of a darker part of my family, or maybe, it’s just a story.”

Honey Harper’s new EP is out now on 7″ vinyl, featuring two tracks ahead of his debut album due later this year. The piece is cradled in an OBI strip and pressed on white vinyl to match the clouds painted by Laramie Glen in the beautiful cover shot by Tonje Thilesen.

Honey Harper, born William Fussell, grew up surrounded by country music in the heart of Georgia. He introduced himself to the country music world with his debut EP Universal Country in 2017, a genre-bending project pieced together over multiple years with deep ties to Harper’s Georgia roots. The critically-acclaimed EP showcased a multi-faceted new vision of country music and harnessed its most beautiful elements from an outsider’s perspective. Now, with new music on the horizon, Honey Harper is set to become the torchbearer for a revitalized country sound. He is currently in the studio working on his full length debut album for later this year and will be performing a string of shows across the UK and North America including The Great Escape Festival in May and Bonnaroo in June.

Amyl and The Sniffers Announce Debut Album & Drop New Video

Amyl and The Sniffers

Self-Titled Debut Album out May 24th

Pre-Order Here

Singer Amy Taylor cements her rock star status” – Pitchfork

Amyl and the Sniffers have announced plans to drop their self-titled debut album on May 24th.  Along with the announcement The Fader also premiered the official video for the new single “Got You” saying “the Australian band recall the heady days of punk: spiky, wild, provocative, and a little dangerous with a fierce live reputation.”

Singer Amy Taylor explains of the song, “‘Got You’ is about that feeling you get when you first start seeing someone and you’re excited to see them, no matter what shit they got. You just see them at the pub and it feels like the most exciting thing in the world, like you’re so lucky they’re even there. It’s definitely one of the “sweetest” songs on the album, and less punky. It was kind of inspired by Split Enz.”
She explains of the wild video which accompanies the track, “We worked with Melbourne director Triana Hernandez for the video and we decided to make it less like a love song and more cheeky. We wanted to play with the power dynamics a bit and turn ‘I got you’ into ‘I literally own you’, just to make it a bit more dark. It’s obviously not a healthy relationship but that kind of thing is easy to slip into, too.”
The band will bring the mayhem back to the States this summer for a July tour.  Tickets @ www.amylandthesniffers.com

Today Singer-Songwriter THAD Reveals His Most Personal Material To Date On ‘West Coast’ EP

Singer-songwriter THAD has announced the release of West Coast EP today.  Known for his most recent work as the lead singer of LEAGUES, the songs on West Coast EP offer a glimpse into THAD’s evolution as an artist and his most vulnerable fully realized songwriting to date.  A full-length album is set to be released this Fall.

The songs on West Coast EP share a common thread of creating connection, and for THAD, sharing his journey with others who he hopes will in turn feel a little less alone.  “Fill My Cup” (Aka Walking To A City) sums up the struggle many artists encounter, being inspired to continue making music when you feel like you’re not moving forward.  “Susie From The West Coast” is a song about falling in love when you’re least looking for it, and perhaps the first true love song that THAD feels he’s ever written.  “All I Want” is an inner narrative about actual needs in life and the internal struggle of trying not to seem needy.

A connection to Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes) is an important part of the journey of these songs.  THAD had been a fan of Brittany’s music and happened to meet her via a close mutual friend.  She became a passionate supporter of his music, eventually helping to connect him with her management team who in turn facilitated the connection to producer Tony Berg (Amos Lee, Andrew Bird, Phoebe Bridgers).

THAD was inspired to create LEAGUES in 2013 during a year of much needed space back home in North Carolina. The band debuted on the Billboard Heat Seeker Charts and went on to connect with radio, film and TV.  At the same time, THAD began writing a collection of new songs that didn’t fit the band’s sound.  A more personal solo statement, he knew that these songs were the beginning of the next chapter in his career.

THAD will be releasing a full-length album in the Fall of 2019 and in the meantime, will be hitting the road in anticipation. You can listen to THAD’s track “Fill My Cup” above.
