Altin Gün completed their first-ever U.S. tour earlier this year, which included stops at Pickathon and Outside Lands, a support slot for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes at LA‘s Greek Theater, sellout performances in BrooklynSeattle and Philadelphia, and sessions with KEXP and KCRW.

“Turkish psych-folk troupe Altin Gün dazzled with a harmonious blend of tropical synths, hypnotic polyrhythms and baglama (a Turkish lute) riffs,” The Seattle Times raved about their Pickathon performance. “It would be great to see Altın Gün lead a revival of this fantastic sound in the West,” The Stranger said, “as it’s one of the richest seams of rock that’s ever rippled an eardrum.” PopMatters noted that “Altin Gün’s Outside Lands appearance was the last show of their tour, and they used their mid-afternoon slot to bewitch us with dual percussionists and a Turkish string instrument called the saz.”

The group recently released their sophomore album Gece earlier this year, which received praise from NPR, Aquarium DrunkardMOJOUncut, and The Guardian. The Amsterdam-based six-member band are inspired by Turkish folk and psychedelia from the 60s & 70s, re-interpreting Anatolian rock and folk music and opening the doors between traditional Turkish folk songs and psych. The band was discovered and signed to ATO Records after an explosive performance at King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Gizzfest 2018 in Melbourne, Australia.

Emily King will release Change of Scenery: Remix EP, a collection of fresh remixes of five tracks from her critically acclaimed album Scenery, on October 11, and today ATO releases the remix of her dynamic single “Can’t Hold Me” by the renowned producer MachinedrumBillboard premiered the track today, writing, “The intimate, sensual tension that King dances around on the original track becomes an all-out sultry affair as the new production makes space for an irresistible dance beat led by propulsive production and spacey synths.”

“When ATO approached me with the remix concept I was really excited about the prospect of having a fresh take on these records,” says King, “plus I grew up in the 90’s when remixes were almost mandatory to an artist’s catalogue. It’s been super fun hearing how these talented artists interpret the music in ways I wouldn’t have imagined.”

Listen to “Can’t Hold Me (Machinedrum Remix” Below

“‘Can’t Hold Me,’ like most of Emily’s songs, is such a powerfully visual song,” says Machinedrum. “This feeling of independence that the lyrics evoke inspired me to make a celebratory version of the song.”

Brittany Howard Releases Debut Solo Album ‘Jaime’ Today

Brittany Howard released her much anticipated debut solo album, ‘Jaime‘, today. As the frontwoman and guitarist for Alabama Shakes, Howard has become one of music’s most celebrated figures.  “To me, there is no time off – I’m a creative person and I need to create, or I just feel weird, not fully human,” she says. She’s channeled that relentless creativity into Jaime, her most revelatory work yet.

Howard recorded Jaime after a cross country drive that took her from Nashville to a small house in Topanga, CA – a rustic Los Angeles county town wedged between the mountains and the beach. She titled the album after her sister, who taught her to play the piano and write poetry, and who died of cancer when they were still teenagers.

“The title is in memoriam, and she definitely did shape me as a human being,” says Brittany Howard. “But, the record is not about her. It’s about me. I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.”

THREE VINYL OPTIONS AVAILABLE

– Deluxe 180 gram LP w/foil jacket and animated zoetrope labels
– Indie exclusive “Starburst” edition.  Available only at your local record store

While Howard admits it was daunting, stepping out alone from her work with Alabama Shakes and revealing so much of herself, it was a necessary step. “I turned 30 and I was like, ‘What do I want the rest of my life to look like?’” she recalls. “Do I want to play the same songs until I’m 50 and then retire, or do I do something that’s scarier for me? Do I want people to understand me and know me, do I want to tell them my story? I’m very private, but my favorite work is when people are being honest and really doing themselves.”

Allen Stone Announces New Album ‘Building Balance’

Soulful vanguard Allen Stone‘s forthcoming record Building Balance will be released November 8th, taking his soul-stirring R&B and funk to the next artistic level. Allen continues to draw inspiration from ’70s funk and soul with current flexes, sitting amid D’Angelo in its sultrier moments, and Stevie Wonder at its most melodic. Also partially inspired by becoming a husband and father, the album features the most personal, lushly produced and gorgeously performed songs of Allen’s career.

Pre-Order ‘Building Balance’ Here

Watch Music Video for “Sunny Days” Below

Building Balance was largely written in a cabin in the woods of Washington state and partially recorded at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville with three producers: the acclaimed British artist/producer Jaime Lidell, Grammy-winning producer Nasri, and Jeremy Most (Emily King). The album is a textured amalgam of R&B and soul, a result of several personal co-writing sessions, collaborations with Emily King, Mike Posner & Theo Katzman / Joey Dosik of Vulfpeck, and lyrics by Allen. Equal parts sentimental (“Brown Eyed Lover”, “Consider Me”) and replete with nostalgic funk (“Back to the Swing”, “Sweaters”), Allen’s third album shows an artist who has grown into his own and learned to balance and appreciate all parts of his life: the vices of the past and the gifts of the present, career and family, the brilliant highs and discouraging lows.

“The balance through the turmoil of strife and struggle is the best balance you can build because you’re growing, you’re strengthening, you’re utilizing muscles,” he says of the album. “If it was a cake walk then you’re not gonna fortify those tendons or that willpower.”

He’s also released new single “Sunny Days” accompanied by music video seen above. The song is an R&B ode to euphoric love that features slick rap verses alongside Allen’s smooth delivery in his stunningly transformative upper range. Of “Sunny Days”, Allen says the track “is a feel good, throwback song about being confident in the love you have for another. Like a refreshing breeze on a hot summer day the melody cools and comforts. There is no feeling more beautiful than trusting in love.”

Allen Stone will hit the road on October 23rd for a live 15-date karaoke tour of intimate rooms. He will perform songs from his catalog and classic karaoke staples with his fans, upfront and literally face-to-face. Watch this hilarious and heartwarming trailer for the tour here.

Joseph Release New Album ‘Good Luck, Kid’ Today

“A Rallying Cry and a Celebration” – NYLON

“[they] blend their voices in the eerily close way that only siblings seem able to accomplish” – NPR MUSIC

“a rallying cry and a celebration of the determination and angst that has pulled us all through these toxic times” – NYLON

“writing love songs and lullabies for our place in modern history” – BILLBOARD

“Upbeat, anthemic” – BROOKLYN VEGAN

“dark folk-pop that will make you cry (in the best, most cathartic way possible)” – PAPER

“it’s the biggest, boldest, most realized thing Joseph… have ever released” – PASTE

Today, Portland-bred sister trio Joseph release their new album ‘Good Luck, Kid’. The new album is a road movie in album form, an odyssey at turns emotional, existential, and entirely literal. With their intimate storytelling and restless intensity, Natalie Schepman and her sisters Allison and Meegan Closner detail that journey into songs that careen, sprawl and often soar, as it spins a narrative of life-changing transformation.

Listen/ share ‘Good Luck, Kid’ here: http://smarturl.it/goodluckkid

Joseph’s live video of “Green Eyes” is also out today. Backed by a full band, the epic and uplifting reflection on love and the open road is bolstered by Joseph’s intensely dynamic sound as each sister’s voice falls perfectly into harmony.

Watch/share the video below

Joseph and their full band are set to headline their biggest rooms yet on tour this fall; full routing below. Joseph also will perform a special intimate showcase at WNYC’s Greene Space on October 1st. The evening will feature author Laura Lippman discussing her new book ‘Lady in the Lake’ followed by a performance by the trio.

In the making of ‘Good Luck, Kid,’ Joseph deliberately strayed from the dreamy folk of their 2016 debut ‘I’m Alone, No You’re Not,’ giving way to a far grittier and more dynamic sound. Produced by Christian “Leggy” Langdon (Meg Myers, Charlotte OC), the result is a nuanced breed of pop and rock built on thick drums and lustrous guitars, heavy grooves, and radiant melodies. Despite that bolder sonic palette, ‘Good Luck, Kid’ remains centered on the band’s crystalline vocal work, including the otherworldly harmonies that suggest a near-telepathic connection among sisters.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Infest The Rats’ Nest

The planet is in trouble. Dire trouble. But fear not: Melbourne seven-piece King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard return to save us all, this time armed only with blast beats, an arsenal of well-oiled guitars that are locked and loaded, and a desire to melt faces clean off.

Their fifteenth studio album, Infest The Rats’ Nest, is by far The Gizz’s hardest and heaviest album to date. How metal is it? Very Metal. Maybe even more.

OFFICIAL STORE

Released just six months after the uplifting blues-rock boogie and deep electro explorations of Fishing For Fishes and drawing on the mid/late 1980s golden period of thrash metal – Metallica and Slayer, certainly, but also lesser-cited bands such as Exodus, Kreator and Overkill – Infest The Rats’ Nest sees a wholly unexpected creative detour into new sonic terrain.

“In year 4 there was an older kid who was into Rammstein,” explains Stu of his early discover discovery of metal’s extremities. “I made friends with him and we put together a performance at our school assembly where we headbanged to ‘Du Hast’. I got whiplash, which I thought was pretty cool. That was my introduction to heavy metal, and soon Rammstein led to Metallica, Metallica led to Slayer, Slayer led to Kreator and Sodom. The German bands really kicked my ass and scared the hell out of me too. Later on, when I picked up a guitar I realized that shit was too hard to play, so I got into rock ‘n’ roll and garage. That was liberating.”  Infest The Rats’ Nest is the sound of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard scratching the thrash metal itch, fully and unequivocally.

Brittany Howard Shares New Song and Video, “He Loves Me”

Brittany Howard released “He Loves Me,” a song from her forthcoming debut solo album, Jaime. The soulful, slow-burning track – which debuted earlier today as Zane Lowe’s World Record on Apple Music’s Beats 1 – offers up a frank reflection on the unconditional nature of God’s love. While confessing she’s not a churchgoer, Howard punctuates the song with samples from a sermon by Reverend Terry K. Anderson, a Houston-based pastor she discovered on YouTube. The video was directed by Danny Clinch and shot at Sound Emporium in Nashville.

View Howard’s live performance of  “He Loves Me” Below

“‘He Loves Me’ is a very important track on my record. It is a song I deeply want to share to help others realize loving and being loved by God doesn’t have to look the same for everyone,” says Brittany Howard. “When my older sister passed away, it took its toll on our family. We grew apart from one another and therefore, we grew apart from our family church. I thought God had intended to hurt us or punish us, but I later realized that I found God in music and I found God in my voice. I learned that He always had a plan for myself and my family. That is what ‘He Loves Me’ is about. It is my greatest realization that He has never left me. All those years that I had turned away, I was still receiving His absolute love and forgiveness.”

Rolling Stone said, “Howard’s solo debut, Jaime, is her most ambitious recording ever, full of synthed-out psychedelic funk, druggy soul ballads, hip-hop loops, and lyrics grappling with her past, including sexuality, family tragedy, religious guilt and more…It’s a powerful record.”

Joseph Release “Good Luck, Kid” Title Track And New Lyric Video

“[The] blend their voices in the eerily close way that only siblings seem able to accomplish” NPR MUSIC

“a rallying cry and a celebration of the determination and angst that has pulled us all through these toxic times” — NYLON

“Upbeat, anthemic” — BROOKLYN VEGAN

“Dark folk-pop that will make you cry (in the best, most cathartic way possible)” PAPER

“an uplifting stronghold” — PASTE

Joseph continue to prove they are “back after a three-year absence and fired up for the occasion” (NYLON) with the release of the title track and lyric video from their forthcoming album ‘Good Luck, Kid,’ out September 13.  The trio—Natalie Schepman and her twin sisters Allison and Meegan Closner— will also embark on a 30+ date tour this fall, starting on the eve of the new album’s release and headlining their biggest rooms to date.

Watch “Good Luck, Kid (Official Lyric Video)” Below

The guitar-heavy upbeat track speaks to the eternal quest for independence as the sisters sing of the eternal road to self-discovery. “They handed you the keys / The driver’s seat is yours now,” the sisters sing over reverberating guitar and intense drums. The song is the only track on the new album solely credited to Schepman, and was inspired by a road trip with her husband Chris, and their long conversations about independence, religion, and the ubiquity of social media.

The girls invite you to come along for a ride in their latest lyric video, featuring an eclectic montage of personal vignettes that mirror the song’s theme: taking the driver’s seat into adulthood.

Watch via Consequence of Sound, who praise the song’s “dizzying guitars” and “driving bass line”:

Joseph has garnered attention for their lush, goosebump-inducing harmonies and songs of unity and empowerment. Nilüfer Yanya Makes Her TV Performance Debut On Colbert

The brilliant British songstress Nilüfer Yanya kicked off a headlining North America tour with a sold out show at NYC’s Music Hall of Williamsburg and her worldwide TV debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She performed “In Your Ahead” from her album Miss Universe marking her first TV appearence.

Yanya is fresh off a Turkish, U.K. and European headline tour which included multiple high profile festival appearances. Her North American tour includes appearances at Newport Folk Festival, Celebrate Brooklyn, XPONential Festival and Osheaga.

Her ambitious and compelling debut album Miss Universe arrived in March packed with stellar singles and powerful songwriting and has seen widespread acclaim from publications including NPR (First Listen) and Pitchfork who awarded the album Best New Music. Largely recorded in the same remote English studio she used to jam in with her uncle Joe, a former musician himself, Miss Universe features co-productions with both her former school guitar teacher The Invisible’s Dave Okumu and her live bandmates Jazzi Bobbi and Luke Bower, as well as producers John Congleton, Oli Barton-Wood, Will Archer and M.T. Hadley. Inventive, expressive and rapturous, the album has seen Yanya deservedly hailed as a true original and a vitally important new voice in indie-rock.
