Watch the psychedelic animated video for the newest track off of Nick Hakim’s debut album Green Twins, out May 19, via Pitchfork, which calls the song “a soul delight”.

Nick Hakim said of the track, “This song’s first verse is about a night when I got really stoned at my friend’s house and forgot to meet up with my partner. It was pouring rain outside and when I realized I was late, I biked through Bed Stuy as fast as I could through the rain to find her but she was gone… the second verse is about patching it up, not leaving her house for a couple days. It’s a love song.”

Watch the official video and ATO Session for “Bet She Looks Like You”:

“An abstract but powerful experience” – Pigeons & Planes

“A hazy, deeply felt bit of modern soul” – Stereogum

“A smoky love ballad that is textbook Hakim: a bone-bare slow-wind of a song that doesn’t beg for one’s attention so much as it intoxicates the senses with knowing assurance. It’s a heartbreaker, for sure” – The FADER

Watch the live session for “Green Twins”, filmed live from Brooklyn’s Market Hotel:

“A soulful dive into one of Hakim’s signature psychedelic soundscapes.” – Stereogum

“The siren-like psychedelic jam is rich with layers and movement” – Saint Heron

“The unadorned, impassioned core of soul, seeped into unorthodox production influences and techniques. Together, it amounts to a sound all Hakim’s own, a look inside his head that gets into your own instead.” – Noisey

“Hakim’s sounds are deep and soulful, but touches of jarring reverb and eerie synths throw his work into a uniquely beautiful state of unbalance.”Washington Post

“A truly futuristic slice of R&B” – Uncut

Nick and his band stopped in Austin during SXSW where they played several showcases. Hakim filmed a pared down version of his song “The Want” from Green Twins as part of NPR Music’s South X Lullaby series. Watch the performance here and see Nick live on tour (see tour dates below):

“It’s soul music for outer space, performed in a room that looks like outer space” – NPR
