NPR Presents a Tiny Desk Concert with Mariachi El Bronx

Mariachi El Bronx recently stopped by the NPR offices to record an intimate performance. Squeezed into Bob Boilen’s trademark Tiny Desk, the band delivered three acoustic tracks to a packed room.

Felix Contreras commented on Mariachi El Bronx’s transition from L.A. punk saying, “They’ve managed to reinvent themselves with exceptional authenticity. They play with just the right amount of passion and pathos; they pick and strum and blow as if they’ve studied the masters; and they don’t look out of place in the pants and jackets.”

ATO Welcomes rayLand baxter / Download A Free Track

We’re excited to announce one of our latest additions to the ATO family – Rayland Baxter.

The debut full-length album from emerging Nashville singer-songwriter Rayland Baxter will be released August 28 on ATO Records. The album follows Rayland’s previous grassroots EP, which received widespread critical acclaim—The Tennessean asserts, “Baxter is quickly becoming one of Nashville’s most buzzed-about singer-songwriters.” The EP also prompted The Civil Wars to personally invite Rayland to open their sold-out nationwide tour.

The upcoming release, entitled feathers & fishHooks, was recorded in Nashville and was produced by Rayland along with Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Caitlin Rose) and Eric Masse (Madi Diaz, Kyle Ryan). Grammy Award-winning producer Jacquire King(Tom Waits, Modest Mouse, Kings of Leon) mixed the record and served as its executive producer. Additionally, the album features Rayland’s father, Bucky Baxter (Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Ryan Adams), on guitar/steel guitar as well as background vocals from Madi Diaz, Mikky Ekko and The Bridges.

Of the album, Rayland comments, “Making this record was effortless. The songs formed themselves; we started with no goals in mind other than making music that myself and everyone around was moved by. It’s an emotional record that puts into words a lot of what I, or anyone longing for change, could go through.”

Old Crow Medicine Show Set to Release “Carry Me Back” on July 17th

ATO Records and Old Crow Medicine Show are excited to announce the release of Carry Me Back, on July 17.  Carry Me Back is the band’s fourth studio album and features 12 brand new tracks that sonically span the band’s career while still pushing them forward in new directions as musicians and songwriters. The album was recorded at the legendary Sound Emporium studios in Nashville (O Brother, Where Art Thou?; REM’s Document; Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’s Raising Sand).

Carry Me Back was produced by Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly). Hutt pushed the band in a whole new way that they hadn’t been pushed before. “Ted Hutt asked us to really dig deep as artists, as songwriters, to get to the heart of the matter of these songs and, especially, not to settle for anything less than their greatness,” recalls Ketch Secor of the band. Secor is also very proud of the result of the band’s songwriting efforts on the album, saying “For me, Carry Me Back is all about the songs, how they line up, intertwine, switch partners, and promenade home. Each of these songs was an accident waiting to happen.”

ATO is very excited to announce the release of Italia 1988-2012, the first U.S. release from Italian superstar Jovanotti.  Rather than a greatest hits collection, Grammy award winning producer Ian Brennan has compiled and remixed what he considers Jovanotti’s most compelling material over the past 25 years.  The album also includes four altogether-new tracks: “New York for Life” and “Con La Luce Negli Occhi,” and radical re-workings of  “La Porta É Aperta” and “Mezzogiorno”.
