SOJA Releases New Music Video “Shadow”, Raises Awareness For Out-Of-School Children in Ethiopia
SOJA Releases New Music Video “Shadow”, Raises Awareness For Out-Of-School Children in Ethiopia
The Video Is Part Of UNICEF’s “Out-of-School” Children Initiative; 3 Million Children Remain Out Of School In The East African Nation
SOJA, in collaboration with UNICEF, are helping to highlight the problem of out-of-school children in Ethiopia through their new music video, “Shadow,” which was filmed in Jigiga, Ethiopia. An estimated 3 million primary school-aged children remain out of school in the East African nation. For more information, visit: http://www.AllInSchool.org/ You can watch + share the video HERE.
The global initiative calls for a greater investment in better data and demonstrates that reaching the most marginalized children may initially cost more but also yields greater benefits. Visit the UNICEF website for more information about the initiative: http://www.unicef.org/education/bege_61659.html
“Shadow is a song for people as a whole everywhere in the world,” explains SOJA lead guitarist and vocalist Trevor Young. “It’s about realizing that we are all equals and should be treated that way. Education should be a basic human right for all people. We are excited to be releasing a music video that will spotlight the power of education and the severe lack of access to schools in Ethiopia.”
The song “Shadow” is featured on the band’s new album Amid The Noise And Haste (ATO Records) which was recently nominated for a GRAMMY in the “Best Reggae Album” category. The album originally debuted at #20 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart and #3 on iTunes Top Albums Chart. Rolling Stone said: “This new album will likely win friends, influence people, and make the country a better place.” USA Today gave the album 3 1/2 out of 4 stars, saying, “This band’s bouncy rhythms and soulful melodies carry potent messages of social justice.”
Amid The Noise And Haste was produced by multiple GRAMMY award winning Jamaican producer Supa Dups (Bruno Mars, Eminem, Rihanna, John Legend). Amid The Noise And Haste features special guests including Michael Franti, Damian Marley, and Collie Buddz.

Listen to new Rayland Baxter song “Yellow Eyes” on NPR; New Album Out Aug 14
“Yellow Eyes,” the new single from acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer Rayland Baxter, premiered today at NPR Music and can now be purchased at iTunes. You can pre-order his upcoming album Imaginary Man (Out Aug. 14) NOW.
Of the song, NPR Music’s Ann Powers praises, “Many musicians can craft about one-third of an excellent pop song. Some write beautiful bare melodies that drip into your head like honey into cake. Others are masters of tone, using genius arrangements and technical wizardry to craft a sound that transports, no matter the shape of the tune. Still others employ wit to craft characters that feel like friends. Rarely, a musician manages to do all three. On the new ‘Yellow Eyes,’ Rayland Baxter comes pretty darn close to such perfection.”
The song is from Baxter’s anticipated new full-length album, Imaginary Man, which will be released August 14 and is now available for pre-order.
Recorded in Nashville, the 11-track album was produced by Adam Landry (Deer Tick, Diamond Rugs) and Eric Masse (Andrew Combs, Robert Ellis) and features Bucky Baxter on pedal steel as well as Jessie Baylin, Isaaca Byrd (MYZICA), Mikky Ekko, Jordan Lehning (Caitlin Rose, Steelism) and Matt Vazquez (Delta Sprit) on background vocals.
Of the album, Baxter comments, “To me, Imaginary Man is an audible record of my journey down the bright blue river of imagination. It is a multicolored dream of song, a sonic birdbath if you may. The sounds and songs are as visual as they are tactile and it shows a bit more of who I have become as an artist, as continual and never ending as that process is.”
Imaginary Man follows Baxter’s highly praised debut feathers & fishHooks, which was released in 2012. Since then, Baxter has toured alongside Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Kacey Musgraves, The Head and the Heart, Shakey Graves, Boz Scaggs and Tedeschi Trucks Band, among many others. In celebration of the new album, Baxter will embark on a series of tour dates this summer and fall, including an appearance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. See below for more details.
