NPR premieres Hurray for the Riff Raff’s new video for “The Body Electric”, New Tour Dates
The powerful new video for Hurray for the Riff Raff‘s “The Body Electric” premiered yesterday at NPR, where Ann Powers called it “the political folk song of the year”.
“This video is a meditation on the acceptance of violence and discrimination against people of color, women and the LGBT community,” explained producer Joshua Shoemaker. “We took these frustrations and paired them with classic imagery that would be recognized by most, allowing us to set a tone for the narrative. Replacing the Botticelli’s Venus with a Katey Red, the transgender mother of “sissy bounce,” is something that speaks clearly without having to be salacious or heavy-handed.”
Watch the video, and check below for new tour dates (tickets go on sale today).
Hurray for the Riff Raff was also included on several Best of 2014 lists, among them NPR and Rolling Stone Country. “The Body Electric” took the number-one spot on American Songwriter’s list of best songs.
