New Okkervil River EP – “New Blood” b/w “Skiptracer”

“ Celebratory and uplifting ”  – NPR

“The best album of his band’s often-excellent run. ” – Rolling Stone

“The way Will Sheff uses his voice remains the thing that makes every new Okkervil River album exciting. He’s been in a lane of his own for years, making reliably good music and never sounding like anyone else.”  – Brooklyn Vegan

Fresh off three months of touring, Okkervil River are preparing for a trio of East Coast dates in support of their new album  In The Rainbow Rain , released via ATO Records this year. Following those dates, Will Sheff and his bandmates will head across the Atlantic for a European jaunt.

Ahead of their upcoming dates in Brooklyn, Asbury Park and Philadelphia, Okkervil River are pleased to unveil two brand new tracks, New Blood and Skiptracer – both written and recorded during sessions for  In The Rainbow Rain . Songwriter Will Sheff explains, “ I wrote a ton of songs for the album… Some of these songs that didn’t end up on the record were very dear to me, and I was excited to get a chance to come back and put on the finishing touches. ”

The two tracks depict both ends of Sheff’s creative axis, with  New Blood representing the buoyant and emotionally candid  In The Rainbow Rain, while Skiptracer inhabits the more introspective landscape of its predecessor, Okkervil River’s 2016 album Away.

Cordovas – That Santa Fe Channel – Out Now!

East Nashville’s Cordovas have released their ATO Records debut That Santa Fe Channel in stores. Produced by the Milk Carton Kids Kenneth Pattengale, Billboard says “Cordovas and That Santa Fe Channel are Americana through and through, with a clear-cut influence from traditional country and the Grateful Dead along with rich melodies and tight harmonies.” The band celebrated the release of the album with an in-store at Grimey’s in Nashville which was broadscast live on Lightning 100. The band head back out on the road next week, and will showcase at AmericanaFest on September 15th at the High Watt.

Prior to their current U.S. summer tour, Cordovas were out on a five-week European tour. In London, the band stopped by the famed Toe Rag Studios (where the White Stripes recorded Elephant), and taped a session. You can watch their pulsating cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Truckin’” here and That Santa Fe Channel lead single “This Town’s A Drag” here.

“This Town’s A Drag” has already begun to get early adds at radio, including at Lightning 100 (Nashville, TN), WXPN (Philadelphia, PA), WUMB (Boston, MA) and WYEP (Pittsburgh, PA). After highlighting the song in their “New Music Friday” playlist week of release, Spotify has added “This Town’s A Drag” to their “The Pulse of Americana” playlist as well.

Years before Cordovas’ formation, bandleader Joe Firstman traveled the country as a solo musician. Raised in North Carolina, he moved to Hollywood as a determined 20 year-old, signing a major-label deal with Atlantic Records. When a dizzying blur of acclaimed shows — including opening dates for Sheryl Crow and Willie Nelson — weren’t enough to satisfy the expectations of a big-budget record label, Firstman lost his contract and took a new job as music director on Last Call with Carson Daly. It was good work, with Firstman performing nightly alongside first-rate musicians like Thundercat and Kamasi Washington.

Allen Stone Releases New Single “Warriors”

Washington state R&B/soul singer-songwriter Allen Stone has released a new single, “Warriors”. On Sunday, July 1st, he performed the new track on ABC’s broadcast of the Special Olympics opening ceremony in Seattle, backed during the performance by a 2000 member choir.  The single, produced by Jamie Lidell, will be featured on an as-yet-to-be announced full-length album, which Stone has been putting the finishing touches on.

Discussing the song, Allen stated, “This song came in a period of struggle. Inspiration hadn’t come through to visit for a while. I had felt like I was just pushing a big rock up a hill while wearing flip-flops. I was reminded in that moment that true success comes when you face adversity head on and push through those moments of hardship. Walk tall like Warriors even when terrified.”

Allen appeared on “American Idol” in April, performing a powerful duet of “Unaware” with contestant Dennis Lorenzo, that blowing away the judges, including Lionel Richie who stated, “That was spectacular.”  The performance led to more than 15,000 sales of the digital single of “Unaware” and more than 5,000 album downloads in the weeks following. Additionally Allen’s spring track release, “Brown Eyed Lover”, broke into the Spotify Viral Charts and made it to #11 in the U.S. The song now has more than 3 million streams.

Stone has additionally announced 20+ new dates to his already massive fall headlining tour.  The tour will kick off October 11 in Portland, OR and wrap back in Seattle, December 17.

Jim James’ New Solo Album “Uniform Distortion” Out Now!

Listen/Buy Uniform Distortion From Your Favorite Retailer

“My head feels like it is exploding with the amount of information we are forced to consume on a daily basis, and how that information is so DISTORTED there is almost no longer any tangible truth,” says James. “The name of my new record is UNIFORM DISTORTION because I feel like there is this blanket distortion on society/media and the way we gather our news and important information. More and more of us are feeling lost and looking for new ways out of this distortion and back to the truth… and finding hope in places like the desert where I write this now… finding hope in the land and in the water and in old books offering new ideas and most importantly in each other and love.”

Enough artistic twists and turns to please even the most dedicated Jacket fan, showing that James remains as musically edgy as ever on an album that pulses with energy, enthusiasm and the restless spirit James has always personified.” – American Songwriter

“All fuzzy guitars, booming drums and distorted vocals, the My Morning Jacket supremo showcases his inner glam rocker.”  – Louder Than War
