Rodrigo y Gabriela’s new record 9 Dead Alive is officially out now! NPR streamed the record in its entirety last week and said, “In their newest album, 9 Dead Alive, Rodrigo y Gabriela return to their roots, reminding listeners why they fell in love with the Mexican duo in the first place. The album finds them at the peak of their musical flexibility. This new album is extremely stripped down and minimalistic, a treat both for those who’ve been following the duo since the beginning, and also for those who recently discovered them: letting listeners eavesdrop on a private conversation spoken between two friends, in the universal language of the guitar.”
Rod y Gab are confirmed to perform on the Conan O’Brien show on May 8 and a summer tour has been announced in support of 9 Dead Alive including a just-announced Rough Trade NYC in-store performance today, Wednesday April 30. This special in store performance will be a philanthropic event for Rodrigo y Gabriela’s foundation, B Major, an organization that save dogs from kill shelters and finds loving homes for them.
This week also marks the vinyl release of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s self-titled debut and second album, 11:11. While the first album was issued on vinyl in a very limited edition in 2006 and has been out of print for many years, this is the first time that 11:11 has been available in the United States.
ATO Records is proud to present Most Messed Up, the new album from Old 97’s, available today on CD, LP, and digital download. Additionally, there are 500 copies of a special bootleg collectors’ piece- orange vinyl in a hand-stamped and hand-numbered sleeve- available at indie record shops across the country.
Most Messed Up finds the Old 97’s at their raucous, boozy best, all swagger and heart. Titles like “Wasted,” “Intervention,” “Wheels Off,” “Let’s Get Drunk And Get It On,” and “Most Messed Up” hint at the kind of narrators Miller likes to inhabit, men who possess an appetite for indulgence and won’t let a few bad decisions get in the way of a good story. The band is joined by friend Tommy Stinson ( The Replacements, Guns ‘n’ Roses), who lays down electric guitar on a number of tracks, elevating the sense of reckless musical abandon to new heights and lending the album an air of the Rolling Stones’ double-guitar attack
Earlier this week, SOJA premiered the first single, “I Believe (Feat. Michael Franti and Nahko)” from their upcoming new album. Check it out below and don’t miss SOJA on tour this summer with Michael Franti & Spearhead, Brett Dennen, and Trevor Hall. Click here for their full Spring/Summer tour list.
Last night, Hurray for the Riff Raff made their late night TV debut on Conan, performing “I Know It’s Wrong (But That’s Alright)” from their album Small Town Heroes.
Heavily celebrated Grammy Award winning band Old Crow Medicine Show has announced their upcoming new album Remedy, due out July 1 via ATO Records. Remedy is full of catchy melodies, quirky and often humorous lyrics, all executed with mesmerizing musicianship. Ten years after the massive success of folk anthem “Wagon Wheel”, which started as a track on a Bob Dylan work tape later finished by fiddler/band leader Ketch Secor, Remedy features a new Dylan/Old Crow penned collaboration on the new track “Sweet Amarillo” one of the album’s many highlights. Remedy also features the return of producer Ted Hutt (Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Gaslight Anthem), who produced 2012’s highly praised Carry Me Back.
Long before the resurgence of folk and roots rock, Old Crow Medicine Show was performing their fiery style of amped up old-time music, cultivating a diverse fan base who thrive on the band’s energetic performances. The songs on Remedy are chock full of the same raw energy, swagger and drive that has made rabid fans of everyone from hipsters to college students to traditional music purists. “This is country music for people who think country music needs a whoopin’’ says Secor, who adds, “Country music that knows how deep its roots run— from the dirtiest blues to the folkiest folk, the songwriters, the crooners and the Outlaws, to the Opry stage; it’s all here”. Kicking off with “Brushy Mountain Conjugal Trailer”, a new take on the classic prison tale, the band then launches into the hyper speed “8 Dogs 8 Banjos” a timeless original that could have been penned ages ago, but with more fire. Though Old Crow Medicine Show is loved for their fast and furious up-tempo numbers, they shine brightly on the ballads including the touching “Dearly Departed Friend” and CritterFuqua’s “Firewater”.
In support of their upcoming release, the band has announced their biggest headlining tour ever with stops including Red Rocks, The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre (Atlanta), The Philadelphia Folk Festival and London’s incredible performance space The Roundhouse. Opening acts for the tour include critically praised folk duo Shovels & Rope, Hurray For The Riff Raff, and Parker Millsap who will be opening all of the band’s UK dates. For a complete list of tour dates see below.
